The majority of the 500 investors surveyed in the Schroders Institutional Investor Study believe that sustainable investment will become more important over the next five years. Nevertheless, the issue is a "considerable challenge" for the professional investors too. The institutional investors' concerns are particularly high regarding returns, transparency, and risk.
More than three-quarters of respondents (77%) said that sustainable investment is still a challenge for them. According to the survey, half of the investors working for pension, government and endowment funds (44%) are concerned about the value of sustainable investments and are not convinced by the long-term yield prospects.
Similarly many investors (41%) are hindered by a lack of transparency of investments regarding their sustainability and the reporting of companies. Just over a quarter (28%) state to have difficulties assessing and managing the risks of sustainable investments.
