Ein Marktkommentar von Dirk Schmelzer, Managing Partner und Senior Portfoliomanager von Plenum Investments: Wenige Tage, bevor die Hurrikansaison ihren Höhepunkt überschreitet, werfen wir einen Blick auf die erste Hälfte der diesjährigen Saison. Mit nun 12 benannten Stürmen wurde der längerfristige Mittelwert von 14.4 Stürmen der Jahre 1991-2020 schon fast erreicht, was den Anschein einer sehr aktiven Saison erweckt. Gemessen an der freigesetzten Energie dieser Stürme (Accumulated Cyclonic Energy ACE) können wir jedoch festhalten, dass die Saison bisher eher einer durchschnittlichen Sturmsaison entspricht. Nahezu die Hälfte der Energie wurde von Hurrikan Franklin freigesetzt, der zwar über Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos Islands und Bermuda hinwegzog, aber lediglich gering Schäden zur Folge hatte. Das Bild einer durchschnittlichen Saison zeigt sich auch, wenn man die Anzahl Hurrikane betrachtet, die sich aus den benannten Stürmen entwickeln konnte. Auch diese entspricht mit 3 Hurrikanen in etwa dem, was normalerweise bis Anfang September zu erwarten ist. Die aktuelle Saison ist aus unserer Sicht konsistent mit der vorherrschenden Situation eines sehr warmen Atlantiks und einem El Niño Umfeld, auch wenn die hohen Meeresoberflächentemperaturen, bezogen auf die Sturmhäufigkeit, derzeit die Oberhand haben.
