Ein stärkerer Yen und der deutliche Renditeanstieg japanischer Staatsanleihen (JGBs) könnten erhebliche Auswirkungen auf internationale Kapitalströme und globale Anleihemärkte haben. Diese Meinung vertritt Ronald Temple, Chief Market Strategist bei Lazard, in einem aktuellen Marktkommentar.
Der Trend ist deutlich: Die Rendite zehnjähriger JGBs ist seit Anfang 2025 von 1,1 Prozent auf derzeit über 2,9 Prozent gestiegen, die Rendite 30-jähriger JGBs von 2,3 Prozent auf über 4 Prozent. „Die Auswirkungen auf die globalen Kapitalströme sind erheblich“, sagt Ron Temple. Hintergrund: Jahrzehntelang boten JGBs aufgrund der niedrigen Inflation und der niedrigen kurzfristigen Zinsen in Japan einige der niedrigsten Renditen weltweit. Im Laufe der Zeit investierten japanische Anleger zunehmend in ausländische Anleihemärkte, um dort höhere Renditen zu erzielen.
Typischerweise kauften diese Anleger ausländische Anleihen ohne Währungsabsicherung, in der Hoffnung, neben dem höheren laufenden Ertrag auch von einer möglichen Yen-Abwertung zu profitieren. Das Volumen ist dabei beträchtlich: Im ersten Quartal 2026 waren japanische Anleger die größten ausländischen Besitzer von US‑Staatsanleihen. Sie hielten US-Treasuries im Wert von 1,19 Billionen US-Dollar, von den insgesamt 9,35 Billionen US‑Dollar, die sich im Besitz von Nicht-US-Anlegern befindlichen US-Staatsanleihen.
„Wenn meine Erwartungen zutreffen, könnten steigende kurzfristige Zinsen in Verbindung mit einem stärker werdenden japanischen Yen die jahrelang geltende Anlagelogik für japanische Investoren auf den Kopf stellen. Anstatt von höheren Zinsen und einem schwächeren Yen zu profitieren, könnten Anleger feststellen, dass der Renditevorteil von US-Staatsanleihen geringer wird. Gleichzeitig könnte der Wert ihrer Anlagen sinken, wenn diese wieder in ihre Heimatwährung umgerechnet werden“, erläutert Temple.
„Sollte diese Entwicklung über einen längeren Zeitraum anhalten, könnten wir eine erhebliche Rückführung von Kapital aus den Vereinigten Staaten und möglicherweise auch aus anderen Märkten nach Japan erleben. Angesichts des Ausmaßes der Haushaltsdefizite und der Schuldenquoten in anderen Industrieländern könnten steigende JGB-Renditen und Laufzeitprämien Sorgen über die Tragfähigkeit der Staatsverschuldung verstärken und zu einer weiteren Versteilerung der Zinskurven beitragen“, so der Experte.
